Legal
All cakes and products made by CAKELIN LTD are subject to the following terms and conditions.
Cakelin is a private limited company registered in England and Wales, with its registered office at CAKELIN LTD, 51 Monk Bridge Road, Meanwood, Leeds, LS6 4EP. Company registration number 14704498.
All products made by Cakelin (the seller, “we”, “us” or “our”) and all orders made by the customer (the buyer or “you”) are subject to these terms and conditions unless varied in writing and signed by both parties. Once an order has been placed, your order is considered firm and there will be a contract between us. The contract will end upon satisfactory receipt of the products.
All products, including cakes, cheesecakes, tiramisu, kunafa, desserts, ice cream, drinks and beverages, may contain or come into contact with nuts, dairy, eggs, wheat, soya, gluten, lupin, sesame or other allergens. It is the customer’s responsibility to inform us of any allergy before a booking or purchase is confirmed and to inform their guests of all allergy information. Cakelin will not be held liable for an allergic reaction resulting from consumption where this information has not been supplied. Unless stated otherwise, products are made to be eaten on the day of purchase or celebration.
We will use our best endeavours to produce a cake that matches the design agreed with you. Cakelin may use artistic licence to adjust a design where needed during decoration. Where coloured fabric or ribbon is supplied for colour matching, we will match it as closely as possible but cannot guarantee an exact match.
We ask for a minimum of two weeks’ notice for bulk cake-slice orders, three weeks for celebration cakes and six weeks for wedding cakes. Some simple designs may be possible with less notice depending on our order diary. Orders may be made by telephone, website chat, email, in person or through the website.
Products requested from a photograph of another maker’s work will be reproduced only as Cakelin’s interpretation and will not be an exact copy.
At the time of ordering, a deposit of 50% of the cost is required to secure the event date or order, or full payment where an order is placed within the minimum notice window. Payment may be made using the methods offered by Cakelin. Final payment for bulk cake slices and celebration cakes is due one week before the chosen date; final payment for wedding cakes is due three weeks before the wedding date.
A wedding consultation costs £35. The fee is credited against the wedding-cake deposit if you proceed with a booking.
Products are available for delivery and collection. Any delivery fee is payable and included in the invoice. The date and time will be arranged and agreed by both parties.
At collection or delivery, the person receiving the product may be asked to sign a release confirming that it was received in perfect condition. Customers collecting a cake must check it before leaving. Once it has left our premises, the customer is responsible for safe transport, care and storage according to our instructions.
Delivery will be carried out safely and appropriately. Once a product has been handed over in perfect condition, responsibility for its care and storage passes to the customer. For wedding cakes delivered to venues, photographs may be taken after delivery and setup; we are not liable for loss or damage after that point.
If nobody is available at the agreed delivery time and we cannot contact the customer, the product may be returned to our premises for collection. If you ask us to leave an order in a safe place or with a neighbour, this must be made clear when ordering and we cannot accept responsibility for resulting damage or loss. We will deliver to the address and postcode supplied and cannot accept responsibility for delay or failure caused by an incorrect address. If delivery is delayed by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we will contact you to arrange a reasonable alternative.
Before handover or delivery, we may photograph the product from all angles to record its condition. Once a product has been collected or received in perfect condition, we do not accept liability for loss or damage that occurs afterwards.
If you have a complaint, please inform Cakelin immediately so we have an opportunity to resolve it. If it cannot be resolved at that time, write to us within 14 days so we can investigate. Complaints made after 14 days may not be considered because we may no longer be able to investigate the relevant facts. If a complaint remains unresolved, both parties agree to meet and try to resolve it. Any legal claim is limited to the total cost of the product concerned.
If we cancel a booking because illness or another unforeseen circumstance prevents us from delivering the ordered product, the deposit will be refunded within seven days of notifying the customer.
If an event is postponed, contact us immediately. Any proposed new date is subject to availability.
If you wish to alter a product detailed on your invoice, contact us immediately. We will assess the request and confirm any effect on price or timing before the event. Acceptance of alterations is at our discretion because our customised service limits the number of orders we can accept.
You may cancel a celebration or wedding cake order in writing, provided the cancellation is made by the person who placed the order or someone authorised to act for them. Cancellations create administrative costs and lost business, so the following charges apply as a percentage of the total order price.

We are not liable for delay or failure caused by events outside our control, including industrial action; shortages of labour, fuel, power or materials; supplier failure; telecommunications, network or equipment failure; civil commotion, terrorism or war; fire, explosion, severe weather, flood, earthquake, subsidence or epidemic; transport disruption; government acts, legislation, regulation or restrictions; and other causes beyond our reasonable control.
Performance will be suspended while a Force Majeure event continues and the time for performance will be extended accordingly. We will use reasonable endeavours to minimise delay, find a practical solution and notify you of the event and its likely duration. If non-performance continues for more than 30 days after notice, either party may terminate the contract in writing with immediate effect.
These terms and conditions are governed by English law and the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
